Consolidated Construction did an excellent job with an exterior project on my home. The project included removal/replacement of trim, painting the trim including windows of the entire home, painting porch ceilings and installing new fans, as well as the removal/replacement of front and back porch flooring from wood to composite. Highly recommend!

Learn moreAbout Porch & Deck Restoration
Common questions and tips from our work with Columbia customers.
- Is composite better than wood for porch flooring?
- It depends on what you value. Composite boards resist rot and do not need regular sanding or staining, though they usually cost more up front. Wood has a natural look, is often simpler to patch and can be refinished. Either way, the framing below has to be sound first. Looking at the condition of your joists and your long-term plans makes the choice clearer.
- Can a rotted deck be repaired without replacing it?
- Often, yes, if the rot is limited. Soft boards, a damaged stair or a few bad posts can usually be replaced on their own. The bigger question is the structure: posts, beams, joists and the ledger where the deck attaches to the house. If rot has spread through those members, a larger rebuild may make more sense. A close inspection settles it.
Tip
Probe the Spots Where Decks Fail First
Take a screwdriver and test the bottoms of posts, the stair stringers and the board where the deck meets the house. Those areas hold water the longest. If the tip sinks in easily, the wood needs attention. Also look for loose railings and rusted fasteners or connectors, and clear leaves from between the boards so the surface can dry after rain.
