Consolidated Construction did an excellent job with an exterior project on my home. The project included removal/replacement of trim, painting the trim including windows of the entire home, painting porch ceilings and installing new fans, as well as the removal/replacement of front and back porch flooring from wood to composite. Highly recommend!

Common questions and tips from our work with Columbia customers.
- Why is my exterior paint peeling so quickly?
- Peeling usually comes from moisture or poor adhesion, not just old paint. Water can get behind the film through open joints, failed caulk or rotted wood. Painting over dirt, mildew or chalky old paint also keeps a new coat from bonding. Fixing the source and preparing the surface well, with scraping, sanding, priming and caulking, is what helps the next coat hold.
- What weather is too humid or rainy for painting?
- Paint needs a dry surface and time to cure, so wet wood, rain in the forecast and heavy dew can all cause problems. Check the temperature and humidity guidance on the product label, since it varies by paint. Direct sun on a hot wall can also dry paint too fast. Good scheduling follows the sun around the house and leaves time for each coat.
Tip
Prepare Your Home for Exterior Painters
Before painting starts, move grills, planters and patio furniture away from the walls, and take down porch decorations and hanging plants. Trim shrubs back so there is room to work, and let your crew know about any windows that stick. Pick your colors early, and test samples on more than one side of the house, because light changes how a shade looks.
